By trade William Alonzo was a laborer and worked several occupations; he was a teamster hauling coal, worked as a cement mason, and various other occupations to support his family. He was known to be a ladies man, after his separation with Lulu.
William and Lulu separated around 1912, and he became the primary caregiver of their children. Sometime after 1920 all of the children went to live with their mother except for their youngest child, George. According to Georgia Nan Wilder Patrick, daughter of George Edward, William Alonzo refused to give custody of George to Lulu. Because of his young age, William was concerned for George's welfare. George lived with his father until he joined the Navy in 1927. William Alonzo died 21 September 1966 in Torrance, Los Angeles County, California. Interestingly enough, after having been separated for over 40 years Lulu Belle also died in Torrance, Los Angeles, California 25 June 1961, and both are buried at Green Hills Memorial Park. |
