James Hill Wilder and Caroline Huntley

James Hill Wilder traveled to California with his father Elias, mother Turzah, wife Caroline Huntley. He worked as a farmer and tried his hand at other labor's while raising his family in the Paskenta area of California. He and his older brother John C. Wilder were very close, even if there was at least 10 years difference between them. We believe it was John C. Wilder's suggestion that he, his parents and brother James move to California to settle in the area just outside of Sacramento, as John would have passed through this area as he went to mine in Tehema County in the early 1850's.

James Hill Wilder died in 1910 in Flume, California and is buried in Red Bluff. Caroline died in 1894 and is buried in a cemetery at Elder Creek California.

Many of James and John children stayed in central California. Over the generations, some have moved to Washington and Oregon. A son of John and a daughter of James (cousins) married. They remained in the Paskenta/Corning area and many are still there today.*
